So my first stint in Lanzarote is rapidly drawing to a close, so I thought I would share a 2014 photo blog with the surfers out there… I’ve been pretty useless at remembering to take the camera with me on my travels and you know how it is, when the surf’s pumping, you’re straight in!
We’ve just had 2 months of solid swell with great winds. The vast majority of these shots were from the week my brother was over in late October. I also took a week off from the surf school as well… My arms are still recovering!
Always bigger than it looks from the road! Big, heavy, fun and bumpy (on most days)! I’ve caught my biggest waves here, had my longest hold-downs and had one of the best sessions of my life with the boys back in 2008!
One from the past: Paying the price. Two in two days!
The Left a.k.a “The Slab”
No thanks this day (as most!) Even the craziest charging locals were reaching for their helmets!
A fickle wave needing just the right conditions; but when it’s on, the most challenging on the Island. I haven’t seen it truly classic yet in 2014, but a couple of bodyboarders were tackling it this day… Disappointed not to have had a crack at it this year (on a small day!!)
Caletta de Caballo a.k.a. Ghost Town
Again a fickle spot, but when it’s on… well the pictures do the talking!
Sometimes you get rewarded for the days of eternal duck diving, paddling, close-outs and swearing!
When the conditons are right, the East coast fires. Not a bad back-up option!
This vid is from a fun little surf in Famara edited by Tobyn.
Next update from the road to follow soon.
